Spanning 552 square kilometers in the Arusha Region of northeastern Tanzania, Arusha National Park may be smaller than other parks, but it stands out for its rich variety of ecosystems. The park’s western side is dominated by the Meru Crater, where the Jekukumia River flows, with Mount Meru towering above. To the southeast, the park edges the serene plains of Ngurdoto Crater. In the northeastern corner of Arusha National Park, the shallow, alkaline Momella Lakes present a stunning vista, with their vivid algae hues and flocks of wading birds. These lakes, rich in blue-green algae, serve as crucial feeding grounds for the park’s iconic pink flamingos, while others host over 400 bird species, creating a peaceful symphony of nature.
Located just 45 minutes from Arusha city or an hour from Moshi, Arusha National Park is one of Tanzania’s most accessible parks. Its close proximity makes it a favorite for walking and canoeing safaris, offering visitors an intimate, immersive experience with nature that is hard to find elsewhere.
